Karnataka: The Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) withhold the first year MBBS result of 212 students after knowing that these students were involved in a suspected seat-blocking conspiracy during MBBS admission process last year.

According to RGUHS, these students secured MBBS seats surrendered by meritorious students who joined other premier medical colleges in the country. The students had surrendered MBBS seats to the colleges directly instead of surrendering them to the counselling conducting authority i.e. Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA).

According to the Medical Education Department, the suspected seat-blocking was reported during the academic year 2018-19 for MBBS admission. RGUHS had informed the State Government about this as the admissions of these students were not approved by the Govt. Since the Government could carry out enquiry on this, the students were allowed to appear for the first year exam.

As a result, RGUHS has now withheld the result of the examination conducted in June 2019 till it receives further directions from the Government on the matter.
