Maharashtra: In this year, the State has observed crisis, conflict situations and issues arising in medical admissions. There are many cases still pending in the High Court. For resolving the issues and providing solution to the situation, the State Government has decided to increase the number of UG and PG medical seats in the State.

According to the Secretary of Department of Health Education and Drugs, Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, the seat crisis will be resolved as the State will have additional 1100+ MBBS seats and 1000 PG medical seats. The proposal to increase the number of PG seats have been submitted to MCI.

This year, the State has got 4,080 MBBS seats as compared to 3110 seats the previous year.  One new Government medical college with 100 MBBS seats is already under construction in Baramati. He also mentioned that the Seven District Hospitals in the State may soon be upgraded to medical colleges after receiving approval from the Centre.
