The hearing on a special leave petition filed by the State Government Challenging the Punjab and Haryana High Court Order to provide one percent micro-reservation in all private medical colleges has been adjourned by the Honorable Supreme Court to 27 August 2019.

Due to the delay in receiving the decision of the Apex court, the State is likely to miss MCI deadline of completing MBBS admissions by 31 August 2019. The MBBS counselling in the State conducted by the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences is on hold for more than a month.

While the State is yet to conduct first round counselling, the classed for MBBS 2019-20 has already commenced in the neighboring States.

According to the State Government’s counsel, Uttara Babbar, the judgment by the Supreme Court will be pronounced on 27 August 2019.

An official from the medical education department said that the judgment would further delay the admission process in the State. The counselling has to be extended to September, as there will be little time left even if the Apex court pronounces the judgment on 27 August.
