The groundwork of Bangalore Medical College & Research Hospital (BMCRI) in 1955 witnessed its foundational keystone as a Private Medical College. BMCRI was established by Mysore Education Society. The college was subsequently entrusted to the Government of Mysore with the affiliation to Mysore University. The college became affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) in the year 1996.

Bangalore Medical College surges ahead with its recognition by the Medical Council of India (MCI) for 150 Undergraduate seats. The college also has 100 seats approved under 10A of MCI rules. The college has the successful allowance of 135 Postgraduate Master Degree seats & 71 Diploma seats. The college offers a wide array of MD / MS courses alongside MBBS. The college thrives on a Central Library with various noteworthy books. The college subscribes to about 120 journals (Foreign & Indian).

The hospitals attached to BMCRI are Victoria Hospital, Vani Vilas Women & Children’s Hospital, Minto Ophthalmic Hospital and Bowring & Lady Curzon Hospital. The college is actively involved in Community Health Services at the Urban Family Welfare Center, Siddiah Road and Primary Health Centers at Sondekoppa, KG Halli, Hesarghatta & Pavagada.

The Digital Library and Seminar Hall imparts additional conductivity to the campus of BMCRI. The 65 nodes at the Digital Library tend to serve the purposes associated with upgradable & latest knowledge. The modernistic Seminar Hall has a capacity of 280 seats. A Tele medicine Unit in collaboration with ISRO offers extensible insights into various subjects. The facilities at the Seminar Hall are highly favorable for Tele-Teaching.

The Central Laboratory donated by the Infosys Foundation worth Rs. 3 Crore at Victoria Hospital optimally serves poor & needy people. Victoria Hospital, one of the oldest hospitals, is an asylum to 1000 beds. The other hospitals in collaboration with BMCRI namely Vani Vilas Hospital and Bowring & Lady Curzon Hospital also responsibly serve people on a regular basis.

The college adheres to strict guidelines while granting seats to the Medical Aspirants. The candidate willing to pursue MBBS at the college must pass NEET & successfully appear for the counseling session conducted by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). The NRI Candidates / Aspirants are mandated to secure a valid rank in NEET. The aspirants must stay updated with the website to ensure procedural candidature & admission into the programs at Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (BMCRI). Equivalence Certificate promptly granted by the ‘Association of Indian Universities’ is compulsory for the foreign candidates and / or the candidates with foreign qualifications.
