Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences isthe best government medical college in Karnataka. The institute is located inBelgaum districtwhich iscloser to the North-Western region of Karnataka State and is situated at the border of Goa and Maharashtra.

Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences was started in the campus and premises of District Hospital of Belgaum. The institute was established in the year 2005 and was spread across 25 acres of land. The institute has been upgraded to include well-equipped laboratories, auditorium, museum, lecture halls, gymnasium, library, staff and teaching faculty.

The institute has been developed with the aim to provide a comprehensive medical care to the residents of the city. Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences is a government owned institute which is duly recognized by MCI andRajeev Gandhi University of Health Sciences. 

The new hospital premises of BIMS is under construction and is being built as a super-speciality healthcare hospital. The new hospital will be well-equipped with latest technologically advanced tertiary healthcare facilities with a separate child care block. The hospital will have at least 500 beds for 150 MBBS students.

Currently, the district government hospital serves as the teaching hospital for the institute. The hospital has 750 beds and is used by BIMS as a teaching hospital . Once the new hospital is ready then this hospital will be given back to the health department.

BIMS, Belgaum has a massive infrastructural set-up.It has 75 classrooms and 2 separate sport grounds. The institute has well-qualified and experienced teaching faculty to teach students. It has a well-equipped librarycontaining extensive collection of books, journals, e-books, national and inter-national publications. The institute is located in a commercially developed location. There are plenty of recreational activities within 5 km radius of the institute.

MBBS Admission Process

Eligibility Criteria for MBBS Course

1.    Nationality: The candidate must be either an Indian citizen to appear in test.
2.    Age Limit: The aspirant must have attained 17 years of age or above as on or before 31st December.
3.    The candidate must have passed 12th class and must have secured 50% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology with English as one of the subjects.
4.    OBC/SC/ST candidates are required to obtain at least 40% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology with English as one of the subjects.

Entrance Exam

NEET UG, National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test, is conducted to provide eligibility to MBBS course.  NEET entrance exam is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). Candidates seeking admission in BIMS must clear this exam with the required percentile as is mentioned below.

The qualifying percentile is different for each category of students. The qualifying percentile for general candidates is 50th percentile, for candidates belonging to OBC/SC/ST including PWD of SC/ST/OBC is 40th percentile, and for candidates belonging to unreserved PWD, the candidates need to obtain 45th percentile. 

Admission Procedure

The MBBS admission to Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences takes place through centralized counseling which is conducted at All-India level and State level. The Medical Counseling Committee is authorized to conduct counseling for 15% of the total MBBS seats whereas the Karnataka Examination Authority is the designated authority to conduct merit based counseling for remaining 85% of total MBBS seats at State level. 

NEET UG - MCC AIQ Counselling

MCC conducts online counseling for 15% All India Quota Seats of BIMS in two rounds.Those students who have qualifies NEET UG and are seeking admission in BIMS are required to participate in MCC counseling to compete for 15% of total MBBS seats. 

The onlineMCCcounseling procedure involves the following steps:

1.    The candidates register online.
2.    The online counseling process starts.
3.    The candidates exercise their options.
4.    The MBBS seats are allocated.
5.    The result of the counseling is published.
6.    The candidates report at the allotted medical college. 

The candidates who are allotted MBBS seats at BIMS must report on the day and time allotted by MCC. The candidates need to carry original documents along with photocopies to complete the admission formalities. 

NEET UG - KEA Counselling

The KEA conducts MBBS counseling for remaining 85% of the seats. The entire counselingby KEA is done in three steps. The first two rounds are conducted online and the third round, called the mop-up round is conducted offline. The KEA counseling involves the following steps:

1.    The list of NEET UG qualified candidates is published.
2.    The eligible candidates register themselves online on KEA website.
3.    The submitted documents are verified offline at KEA office in Bangalore.
4.    The list of candidates whose documents have been verified is published.
5.    The online counseling process starts.
6.    The candidates exercise their choices.
7.    The MBBS medical seats are allotted.
8.    The result is published.
9.    The candidates are required to report at the allotted medical college.

The candidates who are allotted MBBS seats at BIMC must report on the day and time allotted by KEA. The candidates need to carry original documents along with photocopies to complete the admission formalities.

PG Medical Admission Process

Eligibility Criteria for PG Medical Courses

1.    The candidate is required to have completed MBBS through any colleges recognized by Medical Council of India. 
2.    The candidate is required to have finished a rotatory internship on or before 31st March of the year of PG medical admission.

Entrance Exam

The selection to PG medical course is done on the merit basis through NEET PG exam. The National Board of Examination (NBE) conducts NEET PG, which is an entrance test conducted at All India level. 

The candidates seeking admission to PG medical course at BIMS, should have qualified the exam with the required percentile. The details of the qualifying percentile required by various category of students are as follows. The qualifying percentile for general candidates is 50th percentile, for candidates belonging to OBC/SC/ST including PWD of SC/ST/OBC is 40th percentile, and for candidates belonging to unreserved PWD, the candidates need to obtaining 45th percentile. 

Admission Procedure

The PG medical students are admitted through the centralized counseling conducted at State level and All-India level. The Medical Counseling Committee is a designated authority to conducted PG medical counseling at AII India level for 50% of the seats and for the remaining 50% KEA is the designated authority at the State level. 

NEET PG - MCC AIQ Counselling

The Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) conducts online counseling for 50% AIQ seats of BIMS Belgaum in two rounds. Aspirants of PG medical course seeking admission in BIMS have to participate in MCC counseling to compete for 50% of total PG medical seats.

The online PG admission process involves the following steps:

1.    The eligible candidates are registered online .
2.    The online counseling process is started.
3.    The candidates exercise their choices.
4.    The seats are allocated.
5.    The results of the admission are published.
6.    The candidates report at the allotted medical college.

The candidates who are allotted seats at BIMS are required to report on the specified date and time given by MCC. The candidates are also required to report with original documents along with the photocopies of the same for the admission process.

NEET PG - KEA Counselling

The Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) conducts merit based counseling for remaining 50% of total seats in three rounds. The selection of candidates is done in three rounds. The first two rounds are online and the third round called as the Mop-up round is conducted offline. 

The KEA counseling procedure involves the following steps:

1.    First you need to visit the KEA website online and get registered.
2.    KEA publishes the list of the names of registered candidates.
3.    KEA conducts document verification offline at KEA office in Bangalore.
4.    The names of those candidates are published whose documents are verified.
5.    The counseling begins and the candidates exercise their options.
6.    The PG medical seats are allocated
7.    The result of PG medical counseling is published.
8.    The candidates report at the allotted medical college. 

The candidates who are allotted PG medical seats at Dr B R Ambedkar College should report to the college within the date and time reported by the KEA. Candidates must note that before the commencement of second round of PG medical counseling, it is mandatory to submit original documents to KEA.
