Bangalore Medical College & Research Institute, popularly known as BMC Bangalore, traces back its establishment to the year 1955. The college was established by Mysore Education Society, which was founded by Dr. Mekhri, Dr. R. Shivaram, Dr. B.V. Ramaswamy and Dr. B.K. Narayana Rao. It was handed over to it was handed over to the then Government of Mysore and was affiliated to Mysore University and subsequently to the Bangalore University. In the year 1996, BMC Bangalore became affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS). In 2006, the college became an Autonomous Institute of the Government of Karnataka. The college was founded as a private medical college with an aim of providing high quality medical education and research to young medical aspirants.

BMC Bangalore continues to make good progress with the recognition from the Medical Council of India (MCI) for its Undergraduate Course (MBBS), 21 Postgraduate medical courses (Doctor of Medicine (MD)/ Master of Surgery (MS)), 12 PG Diploma courses and 6 Super-Speciality courses (Doctorate of Medicine (DM)/ Master of Chirurgiae (M.Ch.)).Currently, the medical college has 250 sanctioned MBBS seats, 233 sanctioned PG medical seats, 58 sanctioned PG Diploma seats, and 16 sanctioned super-specialty seats.

One of the reputed Government Medical Colleges in Karnataka, BMC Bangalore has 4 major hospitals equipped with ultramodern healthcare facilities attached to it, viz., Victoria Hospital with 1000 beds, Vani Vilas Women and Children’s Hospital with 536 beds, Minto Eye Hospital with 300 beds and Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital with 676 beds. Besides serving the backward communities, these hospitals provide clinical training to the students.

Undergraduate Medical Course

MBBS Admission Process

Eligibility Criteria for MBBS Course

1.  The candidate must have completed 17 years of age as on or before 31st December of the year of MBBS Admission.

2.  The candidate must have passed 12th Standard with 50% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology with English as one of the subjects.

3.  The candidates belonging to OBC / SC / ST must have secured 40% of the minimum marks. 

Entrance Exam

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test UG (NEET UG) is a national level entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for MBBS admission in medical colleges in India. To secure MBBS admission in BMC Bangalore, the candidates must qualify in NEET UG with required percentile as explained below:

The candidates belonging to General Category must secure 50th percentile to qualify in NEET UG, whereas the candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) or Other Backward Class (OBC) including PWD of SC/ST/OBC must secure 40th percentile, and the candidates belonging to Unreserved PWD must secure 45th percentile to qualify in NEET UG.

Admission Procedure

The selection of candidates for MBBS admission at Bangalore Medical College (BMC Bangalore) takes place through merit-based counselling conducted at All India Level and State Level.

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) is a designated authority to conduct MBBS counselling for 15% of total seats at all India level, whereas the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) is a designated authority of Govt. of Karnataka to conduct MBBS counselling for remaining 85% of total seats at State Level.

NEET UG - MCC AIQ Counselling

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) conducts online counselling for 15% AIQ seats of BMC Bangalore in two rounds. All candidates who are qualified in NEET UG and want to pursue MBBS course in BMC Bangalore are required to participate in MCC Counselling to compete for 15% of total MBBS Seats. 

The online MBBS Counselling process involves following phases:

NEET UG - KEA Counselling

The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) conducts merit-based counselling for remaining 85% of total seats of BMC Bangalore in three rounds. The first two rounds of MBBS counselling will be conducted online, whereas the third round will be conducted offline and is called Mop-up Round of counselling.
 
Besides being NEET UG qualified, the candidates should be domiciled in the state of Karnataka to compete for 85% of total seats of BMC Bangalore.

Eligibility Criteria for PG Medical Courses

1.  The candidate seeking PG medical admission at BMC Bangalore must have completed MBBS from any of the reputable medical colleges recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI).

2.  The candidate must have completed a compulsory ‘Rotational Internship’ on or before 31st March of the year of PG medical admission.
