In the year 1953, Dr. T.M.A. Pai, a doctor, an educationist, banker and philanthropist, started Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) with its self-financing private medical colleges in India, namely Kasturba Medical College in Manipal and Kasturba Medical College in Mangalore. Today the academy runs more than 20 professional colleges. After the death of Dr. T.M.A. Pai, his son, Dr. Ramdas Pai took over the management of the colleges in the year 1979. In the year 1993, Manipal Academy of Higher Education was awarded Deemed University status by Govt. of Indian, and is renamed Manipal University.

Kasturba Medical College Manipal (KMC Manipal) is now a constituent medical college of Manipal University and is recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI). KMC Manipal offers the Undergraduate Course (MBBS), 23 Postgraduate Medical Courses (MD & MS), 3 Postgraduate Diploma Courses and 8 Super-Specialty Courses (DM & M.Ch). Currently, Kasturba Medical College Manipal has 250 sanctioned MBBS seats, 150 sanctioned PG medical seats, 20 sanctioned PG Diploma seats, and 15 sanctioned super-specialty seats.

Kasturba Medical College Manipal (KMC Manipal) was started with only pre-clinical section, which forced the students to go to Mangalore campus for their clinical training. There was a need for a teaching hospital that could provide clinical training to students. In 1960, the Medical Relief Society of South Kanara joined hands with the Kasturba Medical College Manipal in establishing a teaching hospital in Manipal. With the start of clinical program at Kasturba Medical College Manipal in 1969 and establishment of Kasturba Hospital Manipal, it became a full-fledged independent college. Today, Kasturba Hospital has over 2032 beds.

MBBS Admission Process

Eligibility Criteria for MBBS Course

1. The candidate should have completed 17 years of age as on or before 31st December of the year of MBBS Admission.
2. The candidate should have passed 12th Standard with 50% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology with English as one of the subjects.
3. The candidate belonging to OBC / SC / ST must secure 40% of the minimum marks.

Entrance Exam

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test UG (NEET UG) is a national level entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for MBBS admission in medical colleges in India. To secure MBBS admission in Kasturba Medical College Manipal (KMC Manipal), the candidates must qualify in NEET UG with required percentile as explained below:

The candidates belonging to General Category must secure 50th percentile to qualify in NEET UG, whereas the candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) or Other Backward Class (OBC) including PWD of SC/ST/OBC must secure 40th percentile, and the candidates belonging to Unreserved PWD must secure 45th percentile to qualify in NEET UG.
